“Mysteries are wrapped up in the the past. But when we can’t leave the past alone, we feel the need to unravel them. When that happens, the end experience can feel irrelevant or enlightening.
A creature’s drive to discover, to figure out the facts for themselves, can be more than enough reason to solve a mystery, no matter how difficult.
However, I have a need to unravel the next mystery even before solving the one before me. I sift through them to find the truest mysteries of all.
To expedite that process, I crafted this spell to spoil the ending for myself, so to speak. It trivializes the reveal, but when it fails to do, then there could be an even greater mystery at hand.“

Memory Cube
4th-level Illusion
Casting Time: 1 Action
Range/Area: Self/20 ft cube
Components: V, S, M*
Duration: 4 hours
Classes: Wizard
*An item that was in the area at the time of casting this spell.
From yourself, you manifest a 20 ft cube illusion that recreates past events specific to that area. The illusion shows a playback of what happened there 4 hours prior to you casting the spell. The playback cannot be interacted with in any way, doing so results in passing through it.
The state of the area, creatures, and objects appear how they were before and what they will become within that 4 hour time frame.
You see and hear everything that happens in the illusion, but physically interacting with it just results in passing through it. Also, the illusion cannot move from where it’s initially cast.
All events are played back in order from the oldest to newest. You can speed up, slow down, pause, rewind, repeat, and skip events increments of seconds, minutes, or hours.
The illusion lasts until dispelled.
At Higher Levels. For every spell slot used above 4th level to cast this spell, increase the illusion time frame and duration by 2 hours.
